Codes and Conventions of Magazine Adverts
The main purpose of an advertisement is to bring attention to a product or event. Both these apply perfectly with the music industry, providing a lot of business for magazines selling advertising space. Advertising in a magazine means that companies much keep their adverts confined to one page (Usually A4, but sometimes over a two page spread, usually designed to be taken out as a poster). Furthermore, they need to keep it punchy, most likely using many images to catch eyes and keep them from turning the page.
Advertisements such as this often use iconography (For more, click here) in order to present the work in a way that would appeal to their fans. This works very effectively. Generally, someone who likes an artist for their, for example, extreme and rebellious persona would be attracted to an advertisement including colours and images relating to that theme.
