What is a Digipak?
Selling digipaks almost goes hand-in-hand with the film and music industry these days, but what exactly is a digipak? Simply put, it is the packaging used to contain disks or discs such as DVDs and CDs. They are an integral aspect within media as they are used to deliver and market media product to the customers, but for how much longer? With the rise in online media and shopping, most customers are more likely to buy a film or song online via digital download rather than buying a physical digipak in a store, meaning the age of physical digipaks is slowly but surely dying, the main reason they are still alive is that they are a collector's item for the most part.
Digipaks can be more than simply packaging, the most common use for them is a bundle deal where extras are included as well as the main item. These extras could split up the main item into parts, or could include special features, such as behind the scenes footage and often mini-games in children's products.
Digipaks typically include specially designed artwork for the product, sometimes even including a novelty value to boost sales. Digipak's main purpose is the advertise the product within, to this end the title is always displayed and in the case(Pun not intended) of music CDs, the band members are more often to not shown. Fonts within digipaks are usually constant throughout the entire thing, such as if a booklet with song lyrics will usually at least share similarities with fonts used in the track list on the back.
